Meet the expert of eBRAIN-Health

Santiago Brandi

Santiago Brandi is a Telecommunications Engineer and the CEO of EODYNE company, specialising in digital rehabilitation solutions that leverage augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and artificial intelligence (AI). EODYNE's mission is to democratize rehabilitation by guaranteeing a high level of care to all patients who need it, such as individuals recovering from stroke and musculoskeletal disorders, while helping to reduce costs for healthcare systems.

Role within eBRAIN-Health

Within eBRAIN-Health, Mr. Brandi and his team are developing next-generation patient and clinical interfaces to support personalized care (Work Package 7). On the clinical side, they deliver decision-support dashboards and agents that translate patient data into actionable insights for clinicians. At the patient level, they power the experience through the Rehabilitation Gaming System (RGS), bringing interactive and adaptive neurorehabilitation into both clinical settings and patients’ homes.

The team designs new training protocols specifically for people with cognitive impairment and integrates RGS with the eBRAIN-Health platform to enable truly personalized treatment for individuals with Mild Cognitive Impairment and Dementia. Together with Alzheimer Europe, they co-design the technology with patients and the public to ensure it is usable, acceptable, and impactful.

In parallel, the team contributes to the development of interactive educational applications, transforming complex brain science into engaging learning experiences for students, patients, and society at large.

Recent Results and Key Milestones

One of the team’s key developments has been the creation of AI-powered VR/AR training activities to help patients recover and maintain their motor and cognitive function. In addition, they have developed an advanced educational coach agent that helps patients and relatives to access and understand trusted and clear information about the disease and its management.

Hurdles and How They Were Overcome

A central challenge has been achieving the right user experience, particularly when working with real patients. It is not about getting patients to rate your application positively in a usability test, but about building technology that patients are willing and happy to use every day, in order to have a real-world impact. To achieve this, the team follows a co-design approach, working closely with patients and relatives throughout the development process.

Contribution to the eBRAIN-Health Research Platform

The team’s work contributes to eBRAIN-Health by improving understanding of how existing and newly created knowledge can be translated from the academic realm into the everyday lives of patients and relatives. Moreover, their efforts focus on finding strategies to make sure these people benefit from technological and scientific advancements that improve their quality of life today.
